Bridgegate, Kelly v. United States, and the Implications for Mail/Wire Fraud Prosecutions

On Thursday, March 3, 2022, partner Jonathan S. Sack will moderate a panel entitled “Bridgegate, Kelly v. United States, and the Implications for Mail/Wire Fraud Prosecutions” at the American Bar Association’s 37th Annual National Institute on White Collar Crime. In 2020, the Supreme Court overturned convictions in the Bridgegate Scandal in New Jersey.  In Kelly v. United States, 590 U.S. ___ (2020), a unanimous court rejected DOJ’s expansive theory of what constitutes “property” in a mail/wire fraud case.  This panel will discuss the holding in Kelly and how it has affected prosecution theories and defense strategies in federal mail and wire fraud prosecutions.  The event will take place in San Francisco at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square.
